When was the last time it was dethatched? Aerated? Overseeded? It might be time to give it a little TLC.
Heres is a link if you want to learn more about dethatching and aerating from UNL Nebraska Extension.
I was out this afternoon with the aerator to make a test run. It worked great, the frost is out of the ground, the soil has moisture allowing for deeper penetration.
Starting this week I'll be out dethatching, aerating and over seeding. True Value has 50% off on some of their grass seed saving my customers some money.
If you have a large lawn and in need of aerating then the large equipment I have is right for you. Covers ground fast while doing a quality job. The John Deere 455 diesel garden tractor pulls a 60" aerator using the 3-point hitch. The aerator also has fold up wings making it useable down to 48" or 36" widths to get in smaller gates and areas. The tine assemblies swivel as they rotate to allowing turning without tearing up the yard. The convenient tractor 3-point also allows for fast pickup and turn around.
Dethatching is what you need then the same JD tractor also has a front mounted hydraulic lift dethatcher that provides excellent results.
It's a great time to overseed after dethatching or aerating. Early fall is best but I've also had excellent results early spring. Using a commercial speader that will consistently meter and spread the seed has worked well for getting that lawn to thicken up.
You can check out the general rates and/or contact me for free estimate either using the mowing rates and contact pages on this web site.
Although specializing in larger acreage lawns if you have areas that require smaller equipment this will go through 4' areas.
Both wings fold up quick and easy allowing fast width change from 60" to 48" or 36".
Shown are solid concrete blocks used for deeper penetration in harder clay like soil.
Also shown above and below are both sets of tires we run. Turf tires and also Ag Bar tires when more traction is required.
Note the large amount of 40 lb weights required to lift and steer this tractor with a 450 lb aerator.
Above is the front mount dethatcher. Not shown is the 3-point mounted, hudraluc dump MCS (Material Collection System) and deck that will vacuum up and remove the lawns thatch.
