Ok, I realize some of you maybe thinking "really, Mower Maintenance Part 3?" I know,... Its been said that I have that personality that if it's worth doing, it's worth over doing. I could go into more detail on many of the maintenance items listed. But if you are still with me this one can really make a difference.
Fuel that you purchase for your mower normally doesn't get a second thought. To be honest I have not gave it a lot of thought but have experimented some and have changed my thought process about the fuel we purchase for these small engines.
Locally here it's hard to find any gasoline without an ethanal blend. Ethenal absorbs moisture and over time sitting in a gas tank the unused ethenal blend turns to gunk. I have used the ethenal blend with good luck in my old mower but have seen issues in my generator and a couple string trimmers. So I started using STA-BIL gasoline additive and eventually switched to the marine grade STA-BIL mostly because it has more fuel cleaning additives.
I'm not sure what the best additive you can buy for an ethenal blend fuel but I do believe that it's important to use some type of additive in your lawn care equipment. I still use the marine grade stable in the regular gasoline (not ethanal) and I need to haul over twenty miles since there is none local.
Want that small engine to start like it did when you first purchased it? Then consider what fuel you're running. Normally speaking in the big picture, the additional money spent now on the better gas and additives could save you future expenses at the shop, buying new equipment and less lawn care headaches to deal with.
